Bomb Squad Called to Hot Springs’ Taco Bell for Bomb Threat

Hot Springs, AR - The Hot Springs Police Department dispatched the SWAT and the Bomb Squad to Taco Bell on Grand Avenue after a reported bomb threat. According to the police report, officers were dispatched to the location after a customer heading to the bathroom warned customers, “Y'all better get outta here, I'm about to blow this bitch up.”

Officers arrived on the scene and set up a perimeter. “We secured the area while waiting for SWAT and the bomb squad.” While on the scene, officers noticed a foul odor coming from the building and notified the bomb squad that it was a possible dirty bomb.

Once on scene, the bomb squad encountered a white male coming out of the bathroom with a look of relief on his face. “The suspect exiting the bathroom looked at the officer in the building and started no one should go in there for 35, 45 minutes.” Once officers realized what was going on, they escorted the suspect out of the building to be checked out by EMS.

“The suspect was released to EMS after we determined he was not a threat but with the noxious fumes coming from the building, we contacted the Health Department and EPA to clear the scene.”
